My Cruelty-Free Skin and Hair Care Routine

I’ll admit, I’ve never been one to maintain a failsafe morning skincare routine. I’m the girl who likes her face wipes to get the job done during my early morning scramble to get ready for the working day ahead. But, after my visit to the Bournemouth Vegan Fair in June, I realised just how much I was missing out on in terms of skin nourishment. There were so many lovely products on offer that I decided to break the habit, and I thought I’d share some of the cruelty-free toiletries I’ve been loving lately.

This was one of the glorious products I picked up on the day at Vegan Fair that immediately fell in love with. With frankincense and myrrh, this all natural face scrub smells absolutely amazing and contains no chemical nastiness. It’s also lovely to use and ideal for those with more sensitive skin, as it isn't too harsh and abrasive. The texture is very smooth and cooling, which is a real treat during these warmer months! I use this about twice a week when showering to leave my skin feeling ready to face the day sans foundation, as I tend to do during the summer.

*I was very kindly gifted this by Hollistix to review.

Another Vegan Fair gem! This handy little tin of hand balm, which is completely natural and contains nourishing essential oils, goes with me everywhere. Not only does it leave my hands feeling super smooth and moisturised, but its lavender scent (which is my all-time favourite) leaves me feeling calm and relaxed. If you see me reaching for this in moments of stress, you’ll know why!

I picked up Faith In Nature’s rosemary shampoo and conditioner combo from Little Green Steps’ stall at the Vegan Fair, which I immediately fell in love with after my first use. However, as my hair is super thick it literally drinks up about ¼ of a bottle each time, making this more of a treat than a necessity buy! I’ve since picked up their lavender combination from Sunrise Organics in Bournemouth’s Triangle, which is definitely my favourite out of the two (naturally). This stuff is great for leaving my hair feeling totally clean and refreshed, as a lot of chemical laden products I’ve used in the past tend to leave my hair feeling ‘heavy’. Any fragrance recommendations for my next purchase would be very much appreciated!

I’ve never been the biggest fan of using body moisturisers, solely because I hate waiting for them to dry! However, after being gifted Liz Earle’s Botanical Body Cream as part of a kit from my aunt for graduation, my mind has been changed! Not only is this nourishing cream absorbed quickly into the skin, but it smells incredible and is packed full of lots of naturally active ingredients, such as shea butter, lavender, rose-scented geranium, echinacea and more. At £19 for 200ml, this cream isn’t cheap and is definitely a splurge worthy product, but a little goes a long way!

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to remove your makeup in the evening or after a quick refresh, these organic Neal’s Yard face wipes are the perfect bathroom cabinet staple. I even take some with me on the go! These are free of harsh chemicals and a great alternative to the cheap and cheerful packs I used to pick up without giving its ingredients a second thought. Admittedly these aren’t a moist as your usual face wipes… but there’s a reason for that! They do the job just as well, plus the fact that they’re not full of nastiness kind of makes up for the lack of effort on my lazy days too! (Or at least this is what I tell myself!)

It wouldn’t be a cruelty free skincare post without mentioning Lush! I picked up their Vanishing Cream quite a few years back and it’s been a staple since. This is another product that I love due to the fact that it’s quick drying and so lightweight… it literally melts into the skin to give it some much needed hydration. With lavender, neroli and geranium oils, this face cream is perfect for pampering your skin when you’ve only got 5 seconds to spare!
I was pleasantly surprised to see that Original Source’s shower gels are completely cruelty free and don’t break the bank either... I usually pick this one up during my weekly food shop at Sainsbury’s! There are so many heavenly smelling options on offer but my favourites definitely include lavender and coconut. I also double this up as a bubble bath which gives me a good enough excuse to buy two!

Have you got any cruelty free skincare essentials or just picked up a new product that you already love?
